This is one of the many reasons I’m glad I don’t live in Virginia anymore.
"Christine" by Siouxsie and the Banshees
Two crews, Maquis and Starfleet, are gonna become one; and they’ll make as big a mark on the Delta Quadrant as it’ll make on them, by protecting people like the Ocampans, curing diseases, encouraging peace. Children like Naomi and Icheb are gonna grow up on this ship and call it home. And we’ll all be following our Captain, who sets a course for Earth and never stops believing that we’ll get there.
Ok, so I don’t know how I ended up here and woah!
And also they made this
There’s even a granny!

EVERY TIME SOMEONE BRINGS UP THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA I GET SO ANGRY.
Because it got burned. All of that knowledge, lost forever.
The library was destroyed over 1000’s of years ago. The library consisted of thousands of scrolls and books about mathematics, engineering, physiology, geography, blueprints, medicine, plays, & important scriptures. Thinkers from all over the Mediterranean used to come to Alexandria to study. Most of the major work of civilization up until that point was lost. If the library still survived till this day, society may have been more advanced and we would sure know more about the ancient world.
Okay I guess I’ve had enough coffee to tackle this: don’t reblog that fucking graph uncommented, it’s awful as fuck.
It assumes a translatio studii Egypt > Greece > Rome > Western Europe that completely ignores the scientific and artistic development outside of that area. There isn’t and wasn’t a global level of “science” that fell or rose at once.
Furthermore the assumption of a Christian dark age in itself is ignorant as fuck; while Rome fell in the West, Christian Eastern Rome (aka the Byzantine Empire) remained a cultural and scientific centre throughout much of its existance and played a fundamental part in transmitting knowledge between the rising Muslim nations and Christian Europe (the Renaissance in Italy was actually spurred first by the Latin conquest of Constantinople and later waves of emigration from Greek lands following Turkish conquest).
And even the concept of a dark age in the West is bullshit; Christian monasteries in the West played a key role in preserving knowledge throughout periods of political and social upheaval (which originally were probably part of why people converted to Christianity in the first place).
Furthermore, a lot of the scientific advances later on were more or less directly financed and otherwise materially supported by the exploitation of Europe’s colonial possessions.
And lastly, there wasn’t one big destruction of the library at Alexandria. There were multiple disasters that seem to have contributed to its decline, the majority of which happened under pagan Roman rulers (and THE destruction is usually attributed to Caesar).
There’s probably like a thousand more things to point out here, but basically ugh it smells like Atheist Fedora in here.
"The Dark Ages." UGH.
The High Middle Ages in Europe saw advances in agriculture, architecture, and they invented the fucking university. To say 1200 CE in western Europe was the same as 600 CE is to be completely ignorant of history.
I’m an atheist, but I know a big bunch of bullshit when I see one… and that graph is a big bunch of bullshit.
Can we talk about how Ardra is the sassiest of all Star Trek villains?
Look at that face. She will shut you down.
